‘Staircase’ : Amsterdam : 1987
This is an installation in the famous 18th-century ‘Felix Merites’ building in Amsterdam. In addition to the impressive central staircase there is a second staircase in the back corner of the building, which has a very rare triangular form. At every turn of these stairs, wooden shapes were added that seem to organically morph from the ‘armpits’ of the stairwell. Only when the top is reached do these shapes combine to create a visual representation of the renowned oval concert hall at the heart of the building.
