‘The Edge’ : Nieuwegein : 2009
Nieuwegein is a typical commuter-city. People step from their house into their car on the driveway, and go to work, play or shop elsewhere. ‘The Edge’ is a building on the edge of Nieuwegein at the junction of a four lane road leading into the city. My plan was to introduce a homely-scale into this motorway-vastness. This was done via a big ‘slew’ of huge pots, pans, tins and boxes coming from the facade of the building, mishmashing it’s way to the road junction. The moment you see the first building indicating you’re almost home, you’re confronted with indoor (dis)order.
