‘Boystown’ : Den Dolder : 2001

A collaboration with Ronald van Tienhoven. We realised a variety of works for a youth prison in Den Engh. The various departments of the prison had names of planets in solar system. Each door in the main corridor leads to two departments. We use lenticular prints to put the names on the doors. Like with the ‘winking lady postcard’ the names alternate when you walk past. The same we did in the ‘airing yards’: we used a modern day equivalent of an ancient god named after a planet and alternated with lenticular prints between the old and the present day icons. Staff uses the lenticular print to talk with the inmates on the importance of ‘point of view’: where you stand determines what you’ll see, and you might not see all aspects from where you are.
